These conversations not only deepened our understanding of what it takes to succeed but also strengthened our belief that Ireland can carve out a genuine place in the global wine story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7025ddcc7cc758dff28a8ba90fa85d91\">Located in the rolling countryside of Lusk, just north of Dublin, Lusca Vineyard (producing Lusca Irish Wine) is one of the longest-standing and most notable vineyards in Ireland. Founded by David Llewellyn, this micro-boutique winery is earning a reputation for bold experimentation, high quality, and pioneering spirit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DQ1JBktDLlk\/?hl=en\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.irishwineestates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Irish-Wine-Estates-blog-images-2-min.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-249918\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.irishwineestates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Irish-Wine-Estates-blog-images-2-min.png 800w, https:\/\/www.irishwineestates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/Irish-Wine-Estates-blog-images-2-min-480x240.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 800px, 100vw\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Brief History<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-170b6d0ca16ff6e24ee88dfe032c83d3\">Founded in 2002, David Llewellyn planted vines and fruit trees on his farm near Lusk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2628974b70ddfc6a410b12d836515007\">The vineyard takes its name from Lusca, the Irish (Gaelic) word for Lusk, meaning \u201cvault\u201d or \u201ccave.\u201d Its label features the historic Round Tower of Lusk, visible from the vineyard grounds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Grape Varieties &amp; Growing Methods<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-da9af449eaa85614abcd5f966593efaa\">Lusca Vineyard grows a carefully chosen mix of grapes that can cope with Ireland\u2019s cool, damp climate:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-dbc644cbcd98e25f698147c5b2ffbfbd\"><strong>Red varieties<\/strong>: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Dunkelfelder and the hardy hybrid Rondo<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0e2dc424afe87f0ada67ce6ecceb05ff\"><strong>White varieties<\/strong>: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Gew\u00fcrztraminer and Sch\u00f6nburger<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6e77ca1eee2ede735d55c6808318fb9a\">To protect delicate vines and assist ripening, David uses polythene tunnels (cloches) over many rows.
